I’m Grumpy.

While in line at the gas station I overheard this conversation between The Crazy Looking Guy standing in front of me and the woman standing behind me. Evidently they knew each other. I think I must have been in a grumpy mood, because it really annoyed me.

Crazy Looking Guy: “Hey, how are you??”

Woman: “Good. How are you?”

Crazy Looking Guy: “Good. How’s your mom doing?”

Woman: “She’s good. She lives just down the street from here now?”

The Crazy Looking Guy responded in a somewhat disgusted tone: “Yeah, I know, I talk to her ALL the time.”

I wanted to jump in and ask “Why the hell are you asking how she’s doing then!!??”, but I think that might have been considered rude.

She replied with a much more appropriate “Oh, OK.”

Then The Crazy Looking Guy paid for his Red Bull and Beef Jerky and headed for the exit. As he opened the door he turned back and hollered to the woman behind me “Make sure and tell your mom I said ‘HI’!”

Tell her yourself dammit, and comb your hair too!

I know small talk can be awkward sometimes, but I really think somebody needs to smack the crazy out of this guy.

Like I said, I think I was in a grumpy mood.

Wet Willy.

For anyone who doesn’t already know, here is the definition of a wet willy, according to wikipedia:

Wet willy: Usually performed on a sleeping or otherwise unsuspecting person, the perpetrator of a wet willy wets his or her finger with saliva and inserts it into the ear of the victim. While not typically resulting in physical harm (although ear infection might occur), the moist sensation can be extremely unpleasant.

Charlie snuck up behind me while I was sitting at the computer and gave me a wet willy.

I hate wet willies.

I yelled in at Lori, “That is one trick I REALLY wish you hadn’t taught him!”

She replied, “I didn’t teach him that!”

Which sparked a “yes, you DID!”, “NO, I DID NOT!” bickerfest.

After a few minutes of this, Charlie decided to speak up.

“Uncle Scott taught me that. He said Charlie, do this with your finger and stick it in your Dad’s ear.”

Grrrr, Uncle Scott is in trouble.

No Smoking Ashtray.

I found this little gem on the nightstand in a NON-SMOKING room in a Wisconsin hotel a few months ago. I was glad to see that they were responsible enough to let everyone know that there was “NO SMOKING” in this room!

After taking a little closer look, I flipped it over and realized that their little “NO SMOKING” sign is actually glued on to the bottom of an ashtray. They are obviously very committed to keeping the room smoke free.

Related and Random Posts.

One of my biggest issues with blogging is that the posts that you write are really only seen for a week or two, then they fade into obscurity. Sure, some of the content is found by people through search engines, but for the most part they are only seen if someone goes looking for them. I don’t see many people read any further than the front page, which is about 10 posts.

That’s why I kinda like this WordPress plugin I ran across. It brings up some of those old posts back as either random posts at the end of a current post, or as a list of posts that are considered to be of related content.

We’ll see how well it works, but for anyone else interested in it, here are the details.

The plugin is: WordPress 2.3 Related Posts
Download it from Wordpress.org
Or you can visit the site of the guy that wrote it: Fairyfish.net
Click here for the direct download from Wordpress.

Here are the installation instructions:
1. Upload the WP23RP folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
3. Place <?php wp23_related_posts(); ?> in your templates
4. Navigate to Manage Panel > Option > WP23 Related Posts to configure plugin output.

I installed mine onto my K2 theme, so I had to insert the <?php wp23_related_posts(); ?> into the file named “theloop.php” located in the K2 directory under the themes directory. I inserted the code onto line 140 just after this line:
<?php the_content(sprintf(__(’Continue reading \’%s\”, ‘k2_domain’), the_title(”, ”, false))); ?>

After that, just login to your control panel and play with the WP23 Related Posts option under the options tab.

Why TiVo, Why?

TiVo is now placing ads on the “Now Playing” show lists. I turned a blind eye when the ads started popping up in the main menu, but enough is enough! What’s next? Will they start overlaying ads on the actual shows?

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie?

Do you know that feeling you get when something isn’t right? You know the one, you can’t quite put your finger on it, but something is out of place. I had that feeling tonight. I was sitting on the couch with Lori and Charlie watching the new movie Disney movie “Snow Buddies” when the feeling hit me. I started looking around the room… What was missing?

That’s when I realized that one of the dogs was not in the room with us, Cheyenne was mysteriously absent. Normally she’s in the same room, or getting into some sort of trouble in a different room and we can hear her. I hopped up and went searching, and this is what I found:

This is Cheyenne sound asleep on MY bed. I guess she got tired while eating one of our rolls of toilet paper.

You can see the guilt on her face. She won’t even look at the evidence!

Not guilty right?

I think Eko was in on it. He had us distracted.

Eko was the distraction?

Class Project Gone Wrong.

Ok, I normally don’t post these things on my blog, but I found this one pretty funny and worth passing on.

Class Project Gone Wrong

An elementary school class started a class project to make planters to take home to their parents. They wanted to have a plant in it that was easy to take care of, so they decided to use cactus plants. The students were given green-ware pottery planters in the shape of clowns which they painted with glaze. The clown planters were professionally fired at a class outing so they could see the process. It was great fun! They planted cactus seeds in the finished planters and they grew nicely, but unfortunately, the children were not allowed to take them home. The cactus plants were removed and small ivy replaced them and the children were then allowed to take them home instead.

Igloo or Ugloo or Beehive? You Decide.

Charlie and I made an Igloo on Friday afternoon. Or at least we tried. Once we were finished it looked a little more like a bee-hive. It was fun though. I’ve never built an igloo or… beehive before.

It’s starting to melt now, and it’s beginning to shift and crack, so it’s getting more unstable everyday. The problem is that when you’re six years old, you just doesn’t realize that going into an igloo that would probably be condemned by the city isn’t safe. It’s hard telling Charlie that he needs to be careful around our snow creation. I guess I’ll just have to make some snow rats and cockroaches all around and slap a condemned sign on it myself.

It was kinda starting to look like a bona fide igloo here.

Scribbly.

I was talking with Charlie on the phone the other night. The cell phone connection wasn’t very good so he couldn’t understand me very well.

Finally, in a frustrated tone, Charlie tells me:

“Dad, you can just tell me when you get home. I don’t know what you are telling me. You sound all scribbly.”

Scribbly. I love it.
